Intro to Creative Writing
Intro to Creative Writing: Unleashing Your Inner Storyteller
“But no matter the genre, there’s one thing we all share: the Art of storytelling.” - a quote by Anthony Shieh
When people believe in you, showing up and giving your best becomes a meaningful responsibility. Last November 16, I was honored to conduct the first masterclass session of the "Intro to Creative Writing" at Tayo Spaces, Katipunan in collaboration with Cut-A-Fig. Despite challenges like the recent typhoon and technical hiccups, the session was filled with incredible energy, creativity, and collaboration as participants explored the art of storytelling.
This workshop was a wonderful opportunity to inspire aspiring writers, published authors, and creative professionals to dive deeper into their craft. I’m deeply grateful for everyone who made the effort to attend, whether in person or online, and turn this event into an unforgettable experience.
Diving Into Creative Writing
The session wasn’t just about writing; it was a comprehensive workshop into the world of storytelling and its many facets. Here's what we explored:
-
The Art of Creative Writing: Unpacking techniques to create compelling stories. Plus bonus topics such as;
-
Marketing Your Work: Understanding how to position and promote your stories effectively.
-
What Comes After Publishing: Tips on navigating the post-publishing phase.
-
Digital Marketing Essentials: The importance of social media and online platforms in amplifying your voice.
Interactive discussions were paired with practical activities to ensure that attendees left with actionable insights and newfound inspiration.
Flash Fiction Challenge: A Highlight
-
One of the most exciting parts of the session was the Flash Fiction Challenge. We kicked it off with a horror theme, setting the collaboration with a single sentence:
-
-
"The old house had stood empty for years, its windows like scary eyes watching every soul who dared to approach."
-
-
Participants then added one sentence at a time, creating a haunting short story titled "The Beast in the Dark."

-
The activity was a huge hit, showcasing everyone’s creativity and collaborative spirit.
-
Congratulations to all who participated in the short story challenge! Your creativity truly shines! Big shoutout to Naomi! A special congratulations for winning the End-of-Workshop Challenge. This activity tasked participants with creating a short story reflecting on the event and their key takeaways.

-
Naomi’s story stood out for its creativity, insight, and ability to encapsulate the spirit of the workshop. It was a joy to see how she brought her learning to life through storytelling. Naomi, I’ll reach out to you via Instagram to arrange the delivery of your prize, or we can connect at one of my upcoming talks at Tayo.
